Where are you based?

Do you install as well as supply garage doors?

Yes, installation is a core part of what we do. We'll remove your old door, fit your new one and always leave your home clean and tidy. Each of the fitters at Derby Doors have undergone around three years training in metalwork, joinery and electronic control systems, ensuring a consistently high quality of service.

Do you charge for quotes?

Do I need a new door if I want remote control?

In about 9 out of 10 cases, we can fit an automated opening system to your existing garage door. Please contact us to find out more.

Can doors and remote controls be repaired?

We offer a repairs service throughout Derby for both garage doors and remote control systems. Wear and tear takes its toll on any system with time, and spares are still available for most doors. Please contact us for an idea of costs and we can make an appointment for the repair.

Do I need to service my automatic opening system?

Remote control systems can fail due to wear if the door is out of alignment or not working correctly, so it's advisable to get it checked periodically. Please contact us for an idea of costs and to make an appointment. Or if the door itself is not working correctly. If your operators get damaged or wet, we should be able to find a replacement or provide you with an external radio kit.

What if my garage door opening is a non-standard size?

With such a wide range of garage doors available, there is usually a solution for any size of opening. However, we can arrange for a made-to-measure door if necessary, at very little additional cost.

Which material should I choose?

Steel doors use a thicker grade of steel than car bodywork, and are galvanised and treated to such a degree that they don't dint very easily. Some manufacturers offer a ten year warranty.

Fibreglass (known in the trade as GRP) is used in up and over garage doors. Being plastic, it's very low maintenance and usually incorporates a steel subframe to add strength. The woodgrain finishes are highly realistic - much better than woodgrain UPVC window frames.

Timber is great for those who love the traditional look of wood and don't mind a bit of occasional painting. Cedar is most commonly used as it is rot-resistant, and doesn't shrink or expand much in comparison to most other woods. The top of the range doors are sectional in hemlock that have the functionality of sectional and the looks of timber. They are stunning.

Do I want Sectional, Up and Over, Roller or Swing garage doors?

Sectional doors are the best for all round functionality. You can park right up to them, they're very secure, low maintenance and can even be insulated to allow the garage to be used as another room. However, there is a limited range of designs, which is the main reason that other door types still exist.

Up and Over doors come in a wide range of designs in finished steel, wood and fibreglass, so they're ideal if you have a particular look you want to achieve. On the other hand, they are not as secure as sectional doors and kick out so you can't park right up to them.

Roller shutter doors have similar benefits to sectional doors but are limited to horizontal ribbing due to their mechanism. They come in a variety of finishes including woodgrain shades to match woodgrain double glazing.

Side-hung doors open like double doors in a building so are the best solution if you make lots of trips on foot in and out the garage. However, manually opening and closing these doors every time you want to park a car in there can be an absolute pain. Unless you fit them with a remote control, which usually works very well indeed. You'll still need to leave room for them to swing open though.
